Kara Lubsen

Aurora Shoe Company is a small, quality driven company located in upstate New York. All of the shoes created at Aurora are carefully made by hand using locally sourced materials. 

My class was given the opportunity to work directly with Aurora Shoe Company to try and create a product made form their unused scrap leather.  

For this project I created a beehive inspired candle holder. Like Aurora, I drew inspiration from their natural surroundings in rural Upstate New York. I thought bees were an interesting focus because of their natural efficient qualities.  

In these photograph I show the step by step process of how to create the candle holders. I also include photos of the packaging I created to accompany the product.

"In the End Nothing"

The goal of this project was to create a product that would create no waste once used.  The Spone, which is created from rawhide, is functional as a spoon, but once used can be thrown to a dog to enjoy.

Photos taken from my internship in Italy at Infinity. Infinity is a family owned company that specializes in handmade leather goods.  At this internship I gained an extensive amount of knowledge about working with leather and learned how leather products are produced through a small-scale manufacturer.

"Drip n glo"

A video art piece created for the opening of my sisters juicery, Sip n Glo.

This video depicts my design for a group project in which we had to create a piece that could be used to make a fort.  The goal was to design a piece and its instructions so that any kid could go online and access how to build a similar fort.
